At Christ’s trial before the Sanhedrin in Matthew 26, He is asked by the high priest if He is “the Christ, the Son of God” and He replies “You have said it.”
He then follows with passages from Psalm 110:1 and Daniel 7:13. He says “But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” To them, this statement would seem to be greatly out of place at His trial.
When it looked to His enemies like Christ was about to be defeated He quotes Scripture that, in context, is of a conquering messiah victorious over His foes. What looks like it is about to be His defeat is actually about to be His victory. He is about to conquer sin and conquer death.
In Revelation the Lord is depicted as a slain lamb, but also as a conquering ruler. Mighty and powerful language is used, calling Him “Faithful and True … His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems … From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron … He has a name written, ‘KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.’” (Revelation 19:11-16)
